The Changing Face of Climate Change

global-warming.jpg

While some scientists predict a natural end to global warming in the near future others were recently caught off guard, surprised to learn they were unintentionally on a list of global warming deniers. Still, we’re dealing with a classic case of semantics and subterfuge. Sure, the Earth might stop warming on its own but does that mean humans aren’t changing the planet’s climate? Not at all. Sure, some scientists don’t believe in evolution either, but do we give them credit? Of course not.

So how do we react with both sides in tension? Well, if someone tells you a bomb is going to go off in a building, you evacuate it right? That seems to be the same approach that is needed here: if you’re not sure, assume the worst and act according. Even with the debate continuing to rage we can begin to take actions to stop climate change. Perhaps in America most of all, arguably the world’s worst polluter, there are ways to try and deal with climate issues and many of these start with simple green technologies.

So do you have to buy into climate change or as it is (somewhat misleadingly) sometimes called: global warming? Not necessarily, but why not err on the side of caution and at least consider it a risk on a short-term basis. Otherwise, go do more research into whether or not climate change is fact or fiction and then reserve judgment and make up your mind after knowing the stats, facts, history and political motivations behind both believers non-believers in what could be nothing or could be the most important thing in the world.

  1. The most effective thing you can do to fight climate change is not to buy efficient-energy appliances, convert to green energy, or walk to the shops, etc. Though don’t let me dissuade you. Nor is glaring at that poor 17 year old checkout chick for offering you non biodegradable plastic bags, angry as they make you.

Nah, the best thing you can do to expedite the revolution, and bring on the carbon economy is to go and take on a AGW denial propagandist, on their own turf.

It’s these people that have been at the forefront of the well-documented, fossil-fuel industry campaign to create doubt in the publics mind about the link between co2 emissions. And they have been successful, the extent to which they have can be shown by the late ratification of Kyoto by Australia, and the non-ratification by the US. And more recently, by the 0.5% increase in carbon dioxide levels between 2006 to 2007 over the 30 year trend of 1.65 ppm.

  2. I see this events just as a ‘political spin’ or ‘marketing spin’ of how to buy more time for not acting and not taking any responsibility, at all.
Sadly, very many people are going to die and suffer a lot, before there are going to be greater changes about this topic, if ever.
Every single week new coal power plants are opening all over the planet, millions of new cars are sold, thousands and thousands of new factories are opening in developing countries, huge forests are cut, etc. President George W.Bush is not supporting, President Vladimir Putin is not supporting China and India are not supporting, Gordon Brown is not supporting, etc.
    Very sad, but true.

  3. So if this was over the last 100 years and the last 50 years was man made then what about the first 50 years. This is the biggest waste of tax dollars ever spent. It is a natural cycle.

  5. What about the other causes or variables that may cause climate change? There is no doubt that the climate will change. Let's deal with it instead of focusing on the debate of if humans are the cause of it.

    Sunspot cycle?
    Ocean currents changing?
    Volcanism?
How about the earth's tilt, orbit and precession? Milankovitch Theory
No. 1 Greenhouse gas: water vapor?

How about the termites contribution of methane? The cows and hogs' methane??

  7. i don't know what is your thinking, as i know from newspaper is some island will sink on 2050 ( maybe you and me are not in this world anymore ), jakarta will sink also, i don't care what kind your opinion, like why many PRESIDENTS in this planet are not supporting, i don't care ( earth doesn't need them, what the earth need is people who cares the environment where they are living in it ), what i do now is how to fight against global warming, not only talking. I' ll try to campaign from school to school ( i choose mostly senior high school ), because they will face the WATER WORLD, and you know the meaning of it, it's mean war. As long i live, i'll try my best to stop it. People has a culture, like don't believe until it's happen, and regrets but it's to late. (sorry my english is not good). STOP GLOBAL WARMING.
